Which is the busiest airport in the U.S.A.?

Dorothy wrote to ask which was the busiest airport in the U.S.?

According to Airports Council International whose preliminary report was updated March of this year (so it doesn't get much more up to date than that!) the busiest airport is Atlanta, Georgia, with 85,907,423 passengers.

Second busiest is Chicago, Il, followed by Los Angeles, CA in third place.

Not so fast, says Chicago. In Nation's busiest airport, that depends the AP tells us that Chicago, IL is the busiest if you count take-offs and landings, instead of passenger numbers.

They further muddy the waters by throwing in Memphis, if you consider cargo.

However, airport rivalries aside, I suspect most of us would say the passenger numbers are what matter to us, when we are trying to fight our way onto our flight, or standing in line at the security check.
