World Health Organization Recommended Vaccines

- First, be sure you have had your primary vaccine series, and consider boosters
- Tetanus and diphtheria
A booster is recommended every 10 years
- Pneumococcal disease
Recommended for individuals over 65, and under 65 if certain other medical conditions are present
- Polio
You may need an additional booster if you're traveling to Africa, Asia, the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent and most of the former republics of the Soviet Union.
- Measles
If you were born in 1957 or later, consider a booster before going abroad.
- Yellow fever
Recommended if you're traveling to certain parts of Africa and South America.
- Hepatitis A
Recommended for travelers to all areas except Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Northern and Western Europe and North America, excluding Mexico.
- Hepatitis B
If you are planning to stay over 6 months in; Asia, Africa, the Middle East, islands of the South and West Pacific, Mexico, Central America and the Amazon region of South America.
- Typhoid
If you are planning to stay over 3 weeks in areas where food and water precautions are suggested, as in many developing countries.
- Meningococcal disease
If you are traveling to certain countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
- Influenza
If you are traveling during the flu season in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere or if you plan to travel to the tropics at any time.
